WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The idea of the Silent Book Club was founded in 2012 in San Francisco. Unlike a traditional book club, we don't get together to discuss books, but to read together in silence, which is why SBCs are often called 'book clubs for introverts'. Over 250 branches of the club have been established all over the world.

Silent Book Club Warsaw has been operating since August 2020 and it is the first official branch of the original club in Poland.

BUT WHY?

Why come to the club when you can read at home? Why pay for a gym when you can jog for free in the park?

We are different from each other: we lack discipline, routine, motivation, time, appropriate conditions or just silent, comforting company of other people determined to make it as much as we are...

We pursue various personal goals in a joint effort. For us, Silent Book Club is like a gym for the mind, but instead of exercising - we're reading.

"It’s just the most amazing thing to see the introvert revolution literally remaking the way we organize society — this time, the world of book clubs."

— Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, quot. after: silentbook.club

Why did I join?

Because I've been asked to.

... WE SHARE A COMMON GOAL

There is only one rule: the reading session consists of at least 45 minutes of silent joint reading. Then whoever wants to go home or move on to the socializing part, can do so. We don't force 'homework' books, we don't insist on conduct literary discussions. Our focus is on the reading process itself.

ANYONE can join our club. We do not keep timesheets, we do not collect contributions, we mock hierarchy and regulations.
